Quantities could change based on
the number of teams.
4. Cooked on site: All meat will
be brought to the site RAW. No pre-marinating, pre-soaking or
pre-spicing before meat is inspected. Meat will be inspected
at the Check-In. Meat Card must be stamped or punched by Park
Foundation Member to receive turn-in containers.
5. Sauce: You may COOK with sauce
but DO NOT add sauce, marinade, sop, or juice the meat or container
once the meat is prepared for turn-in. A box will be provided
when the cook signs in. NO garnishing, markers or sauce allowed.
6. Cooks are to prepare and cook
barbeque in as sanitary a manner as possible. Cooking conditions
are subject to inspection by the Park Committee. Conditions
found to be unsanitary will be grounds for disqualification
from the cook-off. Fire must be wood or wood substance. NO gas
or electric fires are allowed. No holes, open fires, or dug
pits will be allowed. However, a burn-down barrel will be allowed
but MUST have some type of safety barrier placed across the
top and around the sides of the barrel. Precautions MUST be
made to prevent fire threat.
7. JUDGING*: Contest meats will
be judged on Saturday, August 9, 2008. Contest meats must be
delivered to the designated turn-in point located in the cook-off
area.
• CHICKEN: 11:00 p.m.
• PORK SPARE RIBS: 1:00 p.m.
• BEEF BRISKET: 3:00 p.m.
8. The official time will be that
one as kept by the I.B.C.A. Official Committee.
9. Winners will be announced after
judging in the BBQ judging tent.
10. Double Blind Judging: You will
be provided turn-in trays at the Saturday morning Cook's meeting.
Each of these trays will have a double matched theater ticket
which has been affixed to the tray with masking tape. The Head
Cook only will sign the back of the ticket on each tray. The
Head Cook is responsible for removing and keeping in a safe
place the signed ticket. You MUST present this signed ticket
to claim any prize when the winning tickets are announced at
the award ceremony.
11. The Head Cook for each team
will be responsible for the conduct of his team, guests, or
invitees. As well, the Head Cook will be responsible for his
team's compliance with the rules and regulations herein set
forth. EXCESSIVE use of alcoholic beverages will be grounds
for disqualification. Contestants must not give, offer, sell
or donate alcoholic beverages to the general public. Teams will
not offer Barbeque for SALE. Any offensive conduct will be grounds
for disqualification from the Cook-Off and expulsions from the
Barbeque Cook-Off Grounds.
12. Any nudity, lewdness, or any
form of vulgarity will NOT be allowed. No pyrotechnics or explosives
are allowed. Any intentional use of the above by a team will
result in disqualification, and removal from the grounds.
13. Music within your team area
is allowed. HOWEVER, excessive loud music and/or sounds which
interfere with announcements, schedules, live bands and entertainment
on stage, or which intrude upon or interfere with the comfort
of fellow contestants will NOT BE ALLOWED NOR TOLERATED. Offenders
will receive no more than 3 warnings from either the Barbeque
Chairman, Vice-Chairman, or Security Vice-Chairman, and non-compliance
will be grounds for disqualification from the Cook-Off and expulsion
from the Barbeque Cook-Off Grounds.
14. Decisions of the Park Fund
Raising Committee and Judges of the contest are final.
15. To make additional rules and
regulations as the situations warrant. Decisions of the Cook-
Off Chairman and Park Fund Raising Committee are final-
* All teams will be required to
have one or more members act as preliminary judges in one or
more categories as needed.
16. Animal(s) of any kind WILL
NOT BE PERMITTED in any contestant's contest space, nor will
any animal(s) be permitted on the Barbeque Cook-Off Grounds,
EXCEPT for Seeing Eye dogs.
17. The Cook's Meeting is scheduled
for Saturday, August 9, 2008. (Time will be announced on Friday.)
18. Each team is asked to donate
10 lbs. of cooked brisket for use at a designated time by the
Park Committee. Your turn in time will be given when you check
in your meat. The Park Committee welcomes any donations of extra
cooked brisket. All proceeds from sales of the brisket will
go to The Greater La Vernia Parks Foundation.
19. Awards will be given to 1st
-10th places in each of the categories and Grand Champion overall.
Cash prizes for 1st -3rd places in each meat category(percentage
based upon participation)
20. Showmanship & Best Pit:
This award is based on how the team is showcasing their 40'
x 40' area (decorations, theme, buildings, set-up, etc.).
21. Showmanship Judging: The judging
will be held from 11:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Saturday August 9,
2008. Please be sure that your team name is prominently displayed.
22. Damages/Security/Safety: Teams
participating in the contest must not damage in any way the
premises on which the contest is being conducted. UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES
are there to be any open fires on the grounds. They must be
contained in a fireproof container.
Security and safety are the sole responsibility of each team/contestant.
The Park
Committee is not responsible for theft or damage to the property
of a contestant, its members, or its guests. Furthermore, the
Park Committee is not responsible for any injury to any such
person(s).
23. Each team is responsible for
ensuring that its space is cleaned following the contest. All
trash must be placed in the dumpsters provided. All flames and
hot coals must be exterminated and disposed of properly. A team
may be disqualified from further participation in the contest
or any subsequent contest in the event that the team either
causes damage to the grounds or leaves its space in disarray
or with loose bundled trash and garbage following the contest.
24. Alcoholic Beverages: NO glass
beer or soft drink bottles are permitted in the contest area.
Beer, ice and soft drinks may be purchased on the grounds. Case
beer and ice will be sold to cooking teams at a discounted price.
No outside beverages to be brought in Saturday,
August 9, 2008. We also ask that the cooking teams to limit
outside beverages to the team members only -not the general
public.
25. The use of any motorized vehicles
during the event in the park is strictly prohibited (i.e. scooters,
golf carts, ATV's, trucks, cars, etc.) unless it is for official
Parks Foundation use.
Transportation will be provided for any handicap visitors. This
is for the safety of our guests.
26. There will be no vehicles in
or out of the park after 8:00am Saturday morning. All vehicles
in the park will have to remain until one hour after the judging
has been announced. Teams wishing to leave after judging will
be able to leave under supervision of the park security for
a 2 hour period. Safety for the park guest is our 1st priority.
